Cavs 118 - Celtics 114
The Cleveland Cavaliers avenge an earlier loss against the Boston Celtics 118-114 in overtime, extending Boston’s losing streak to 3 games. Even without Jayson Tatum the Cavs struggled to until the 4th quarter surge led by none other than Lamar Stevens off the bench and Donovan Mitchell ended the game with another 40 point outing. Jaylen Brown had the high in points for the Celtics with 32 as the Cs had an opportunity to win the game as Grant Williams had two free throws which he missed after telling Mitchell he would make both. The losing streak has allowed Milwaukee, Philly, and now Cleveland to catch Boston in the standings a top the Eastern Conference.
Sixers 147 - Pacers 143
Joel Embiid scored 42 points and James Harden added a near triple-double with 20 assists, 14 points and nine rebounds, as the Philadelphia 76ers broke open a close game with a decisive fourth-quarter run to beat the Indiana Pacers 147-143. In a game that featured very little defense the Sixers relied on Embiid’s dominance and the charity strip to put away a pesky Pacers team late in the 4th quarter. Tyrese Haliburton was exceptional in the loss finishing 40 points and 16 assists and seems poised to have the Pacers ready to compete with an elite point guard next season.
Heat 130 - Hawks 128
Jimmy Butler had 26 points, Victor Oladipo and Caleb Martin combined to score 43 off the bench, and the Heat held off the Atlanta Hawks 130-128 to gain a 2.5 game advantage in the Southeast division. The Heat have rallied to win from 15 or more points down for the fourth time this season and scored a season high 59 points from the bench unit to seal the victory late in the 4th quarter.
Trail Blazers 110 - Pistons 104
Damian Lillard is trying his absolute best to carry the Portland Trail Blazers into the playoffs as once again Dame needed to play hero finishing with 21 points, 13 rebounds, and 12 assists for his 3rd career triple-double (his second of this season). Jerami Grant added 26 points to and has quietly become the Blazers second most important player. With Grant still sitting on a contract extension one has to wonder if this is Dame’s last hurrah in Portland despite all the news to the contrary.
Nuggets 118 - Raptors 113
The Nuggets boast the NBA’s best record and most likely the League’s MVP but did you know that the Nuggets are also the only team in the Western Conference to have over 40 wins? The offensive juggernaught that is Nikola Jokic continues to hum along, this time 1 assist shy of another triple-double finishing with a stat line of 17/13/9. Michael Porter Jr and Jamal Murray combined for 44 points and the Nuggets were simply to much for the Toronto Raptors to overcome as the Nuggets took the lead with less than 1:15 left in the game and never looked back en route to a 118-113 win.
Kings 123 - Pelicans 108
The Pelicans continue their 2023 free fall losing to the Kings even with the return of Jonas Valanciunas as they have yet to overcome or develop an answer for the absence of Zion Williamson. Brandon Ingram led the team in scoring with 24 points but it is clear that without Zion head coach Willie Green is limited in what he can do schematically to make up for such a loss. Domantas Sabonis continues to be the back bone for the Sacramento Kings, finishing the game with a 19 point, 11 board, 11 assist triple-double. Sabonis now leads the NBA in both rebounds and double-doubles for the season.
